Economic & permanent residence

Express Entry

Express Entry is the federal online system that manages permanent-residence applications for three economic programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Candidates submit a profile, receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, and the highest-ranked are invited to apply in periodic draws.

Who it's for

Key points

  • Covers Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades

  • Invitations issued in periodic draws (including category-based draws)
  • A provincial nomination can substantially raise a CRS score

  1. 1Confirm eligibility for one of the three programs
  2. 2Create an Express Entry profile and enter the pool
  3. 3Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a draw

Frequently asked questions

Is Express Entry a separate immigration program?+

No — it's an application-management system for three federal economic programs. You still qualify under one of those programs.

Where can I confirm the current requirements?+

Eligibility, the CRS and draw results are published on Canada.ca (IRCC). Always check the current criteria there or with a licensed professional.
